چکیده
Inulin is a natural fructose polymer, widespread in gut flora. Determination of inulin clearance is considered the method of choice when precise determination of the glomerular filtration rate is required (1). Classically, inulin determination has been performed after acid hydrolysis by complexing the liberated fructose with resorcinol or diphenylamine in concentrated sulfuric acid (2). However, the latter assays are time consuming, not suited for automated analysis, and potentially subject to interference from other carbohydrates such as glucose (2). Moreover, acid hydrolysis of inulin may result in the formation of other compounds, e.g., difructosedianhydride (3). The technical difficulty of inulin analysis is considered one of the main disadvantages of the method (4). Enzymatic analysis of inulin has been performed (5, 6); a blank reaction, however, is still needed because of glucose interference. Even at physiological concentrations, fasting serum (or amphetamin, class) concn measured, mg/L

Gut Flora in the Metabolism of Cyclamate
1. ["'C]Cyclamate was not metabolized when incubated with the liver, spleen, kidney or blood of rats or rabbits kept on a cyclamate-containing diet, and that had become converters of cyclamate into cyclohexylamine. 2. ["'C]Cyclamate was converted into cyclohexylamine when incubated under anaerobic conditions with the contents of the caecum, colon or rectum or with the faeces of cyclamate-pretre...
متن کاملMetabolism of cyclamate and its conversion to cyclohexylamine.
Since cyclamates were first introduced in the early 1950s, arguments have raged over the potential carcinogenicity of this artificial sweetener. Concern over the safety of cyclamates arises from observations that some individuals and experimental animals can metabolize cyclamate to cyclohexylamine and that cyclohexylamine has been shown to produce testicular atrophy in experimental animals. Thi...

متن کاملThe fate of cyclamate in man and other species.
1. (14)C-labelled cyclamate has been administered to guinea pigs, rabbits, rats and humans. When given orally to these species on a cyclamate-free diet, cyclamate is excreted unchanged. In guinea pigs some 65% of a single dose is excreted in the urine and 30% in the faeces, the corresponding values for rats being 40 and 50%, for man, 30-50% and 40-60%, and for rabbits, 90 and 5%, the excretion ...
متن کاملCross-reactivity of fosphenytoin in two human plasma phenytoin immunoassays.
The cross-reactivity of fosphenytoin, a phosphate ester prodrug of phenytoin, was investigated in the Abbott phenytoin TDx/TDxFLx fluorescence polarization immunoassay (TDx) and the Behring Diagnostics phenytoin Emit 2000 enzyme-multiplied immunoassay (Emit). The first part of our study investigating cross-reactivity utilized in vitro correlation of the two immunoassays with a validated and spe...
